Embodied wisdom is dynamic and fluid 🌊

For those who are new to training, I would love to tell you a little more about these monthly sessions. For the first hour or so you'll be learning Kali striking patterns, engaging in partner drills, and also be participating in light conditioning exercises. I'll encourage you to challenge yourself and listen to your body. Move at your own pace and be open to stepping outside of your comfort zone.

During these sessions, I may reference history to shed light on how our ancestors utilized these arts. While I feel it's important to establish the container of practicing Kali as a transformative decolonization practice, I believe that feeling connected to our ancestry goes beyond simply collecting historical facts.

In my experience, there's a depth of learning that happens in the doing or in the actual training. Feeling at home in my body invokes within me a feeling of closeness to my ancestors that goes beyond any book learning. It's hard for me to explain in words, but there are evolving answers for us in the practice of being in our bodies.

I believe that the answers we seek about life and navigating this complex world are not fixed; instead, they are responses that evolve and adapt, as we grow and circumstances change. And this truth is reflected in the physical practice of training Kali. As we progress in our training, we come to understand through drilling and experiential learning that there are no "fixed answers" in fighting either.

Whether within the context of martial art training or regarding life challenges, our responses will evolve because we evolve through continuous reflection, inner exploration, and engagement with life experiences.

Embodied wisdom is dynamic and fluid. 🌊

And this is the ancient wisdom that our ancestors are hoping for us to remember. While I can share my insights, you'll have to discover what that feels like for yourself.

So after we train, we'll explore in discussion how this ancient practice can enrich and support our everyday lives. I'm excited to witness your personal journey unfold!
